Honourable Kirsty Duncan announces funding for IFDM 2018

The Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Canada’s Minister of Science and Minister of Sport and Persons with Disabilities, announced funding for the International Forum on Disability Management – IFDM 2018 – through the Disability Component of the Social Development Partnerships Program, at a news event held April 12 in Victoria.

Also attending the event was BC’s Minister for Indigenous Relations and Reconciliation, the Honourable Scott Fraser who is MLA, Mid Island-Pacific Rim, in the riding where the Pacific Coast University for Workplace Health Sciences (PCU-WHS) and NIDMAR are located.

The IFDM is designed to promote innovation, leadership and practical policy and program solutions, and will provide knowledge and tools on an integrated approach to disability management in the workplace. For further details on IFDM 2018, please visit the website: IFDM 2018

CSPDM Appoints New Chair

Evie DoCouto, Vice President, Return to Work Division at the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) of Ontario, has been appointed Chair of the Canadian Society of Professionals in Disability Management. In this role, she also serves as Chair of the Canadian Certification Council, which awards the professional designations of Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) and Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) under the auspices of the International Disability Management Standards Council, a standard of excellence in the Disability Management field comparable to ISO certification in other sectors. Disability Management Professionals in Belgium

A ceremony took place in Belgium at the end of November to recognize the first group of participants to complete the Disability Management Practitioner training program and also to present the IDMSC certificates to those who successfully passed the professional certification examinations. Attached please find the IDMSC Communique which provides the background on the agreement between the Belgium Health Insurance Agency (RIZIV/INAMI) and NIDMAR as well as comments from participants in the training program.

Celebrating 30 Years of Bringing Attention to the Plight of Injured Workers

It was June 1987 when a group of disabled forest industry workers, led by Wolfgang Zimmermann and supported by key leaders in the forest industry, unions, government and other stakeholders pulled together a production team and the financing to produce a powerful national documentary film entitled Every Twelve Seconds, so named because at the time, a disabling workplace injury occurred every 12 seconds in Canada. Professional Designations for DM / RTW Expand Throughout Southeast Asia

During the recently concluded IFDM 2016 in Kuala Lumpur, an historic signing took place between the Social Security Organization of Malaysia, SOCSO/PERKESO, and the National Institute of Disability Management and Research (NIDMAR) which allows SOCSO, through a formal license agreement, to offer and administer the professional certification examinations for the designations of Certified Disability Management Professional (CDMP) and Certified Return to Work Coordinator (CRTWC) throughout a range of Southeast Asian nations currently not covered through individual license agreements. With these additional countries, this brings the number of countries now licensed to provide the professional CDMP and CRTWC designations to 26.  Full Story

Belgium to host IFDM 2020

The National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance (INAMI-RIZIV) of the Government of Belgium will host IFDM 2020.

With IFDM 2016 having successfully concluded, and IFDM 2018 scheduled for Vancouver, the following IFDM in 2020 will move to Brussels. Mr. Francois Perl, Director General of INAMI-RIZIV, of Brussels, Belgium, was extremely pleased to announce that his organization had been accepted to be the official host for IFDM 2020.

“Maintaining a continued successful employment relationship for individuals who acquire a disabling impairment is absolutely the best outcome for the individual, from every perspective,” said Mr. Perl in making the announcement.
